MOMJAN MUSCAT PDO (Entered in the PDO Register by Commission Regulation (EU) No. 2021/1263 of 26 July 2021) - PDO-HR-02109

“Muškat Momjanski/Momjan Muscat” is a traditionally used name combining the designation of the grape variety (Muscat, derived from Muscat Blanc) and the name of the geographical area (Momjanski, referring to the village of Momjan, located in the northern part of the Istrian peninsula).

Although Muscat Blanc has traditionally been cultivated to varying extents across different parts of Istria, Momjan has long been recognised as a characteristic area for the production of this wine. The natural conditions of climate, soil, and terrain that define the wider Momjan area are particularly well suited to the cultivation of Muscat Blanc. This is evidenced by numerous historical sources, traditional events dedicated to Muscat wines held in Momjan, as well as the significant number of winegrowing and winemaking families in the area who have been producing this wine for generations.
